International Language Institute
Washington, DC
At International Language Institute, I teach international students from over 40 countries academic-based English as a Second Language. I taught group classes and private tutorials in reading, writing, listening, speaking, and grammar. I also developed a Business English curriculum for students in the Korea West Program, a joint initiative between the Republic of Korean and the U.S. State Department.
Student Comments:
“I’m very appreciate with your teaching. I never forget your energetic and positive attitude. It was really impressive. I liked your class and will miss it.”
“I respect Ms. Ashley and I admire Ashley and I hope her successful in this life.”
“I think Ashley is one of the best teachers I had. She is funny, smart and she always try to make the class with games and easy explanations. She likes teaching and as a student I can notice that and it’s really good to have teachers who love their work.”

Cat Ba National Park
Cat Ba Island, Vietnam
Cat Ba Island in Halong Bay, Vietnam is home to an endangered species of langur endemic to the island. The Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project has a partnership with the National Park to protect the langurs, who are poached for their medicinal qualities. The conservation project hired me to teach English the park employees to better facilitate communication between the employees and the conservationists. I taught a group of professionals beginning conversational English and pronunciation.
Cat Ba is the hub of Halong Bay, a major tourist destination in northern Vietnam. While on the island, I also tutored three young men who worked as guides for an adventure rock climbing company, Slo Pony Adventures.

Gwangju Reading Star English Academy
In the spring of 2008, I began teaching English to elementary-aged children in Gwangju, South Korea. Gwangju is a city of 1.5 million people four hours south and west of Seoul. Reading Star is a hagwon, an after school academy attended by many students in Korea. I taught basic introductory phonics to young adult novels and essay writing. This was my first teaching job and while I never anticipated enjoying teaching, this is where I found that I was a educator.
International Travel
While teaching abroad, I was incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to travel to much of East and Southeast Asia.
